Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. When is the best time to visit Nepal and Bhutan?

The ideal periods to explore both Nepal and Bhutan are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer pleasant weather, clear skies, and favorable conditions for outdoor activities and sightseeing. However, you can visit throughout the year, depending on your preferences and desired activities.

Q2. Can I travel independently in Bhutan and Nepal?

In Nepal, independent travel is permitted, giving you the freedom to explore the country without significant restrictions. The only exception is trekking trails, which require permits but not necessarily the presence of a guide. Traveling within Nepal is hassle-free, granting you the liberty to venture anywhere in the country on your own.

However, Bhutan has stricter regulations in place to maintain its focus on environmental tourism. All tourists visiting Bhutan must be part of a pre-booked tour that includes a private vehicle, driver, and guide. Even during treks, a guide and support team will accompany you at all times. These measures are implemented to safeguard the kingdom’s environment from potential harm caused by tourism and to preserve its unique experience for future visitors.

Q3. How can I travel between Bhutan and Nepal?

Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, offers convenient access to Bhutan with regular flights connecting the two countries. This route ensures seamless travel, as it is among the nine airports in five countries with direct flights to Bhutan. During the peak season, daily flights are available from Nepal, and additional flights are often arranged to accommodate high demand. The flight from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan, takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Q4. How to get Nepal and Bhutan visas?

Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, you can easily obtain a Nepal visa. The cost for a 15-day multiple-entry tourist visa is US$30, while a 30-day visa is priced at US$50.

Obtaining a Bhutan visa is a straightforward process. You have two options: you can either apply online or seek assistance from the tour company with which you have booked your tour. The visa application typically takes around 5 working days to process, and the fee is US$50 per person. It’s important to note that travelers must obtain a visa before they arrive in Bhutan, whether by flight or land travel.
