Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrival in Paro & Sightseeing Tour

Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Visit Ta Dzong and Ringpung Dzong. Proceed through the beautiful valley to the watchtower, locally known as Ta-Dzong. Take a short walk downhill to the Rinpung Dzong, serving as the administrative center and school for monks. Walk further down, crossing the traditional bridge into Paro Town.

Day 2: Takshang Monastery Hike & Drugyel Dzong

Visit on a morning hike to Takshang Monastery, also known as “Tiger’s Nest.” The uphill trek, approximately 3/4 hours through pine forests, leads to this iconic monastery clinging to a granite cliff 800 meters above the Paro Valley. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava meditated here in the 7th century. Continue to visit Drugyel Dzong, offering strategic views of Mount Chomolhari on clear days.

Day 3: Start Trek Day – Trek to Jele Dzong

Although today’s trek is short, maintain a slow and steady pace due to significant altitude gain. After breakfast, drive to the National Museum above Paro, the starting point for your trek. Walk uphill through apple orchards, Damchena village, and pine forests to reach Jele Dzong (3,490m). Enjoy breathtaking views of Paro town and Mount Jomolhari on clear days.

Day 4: Trek to Jangchulakha

Begin with a gradual ascent and then descend through alpine forests and rhododendrons. Encounter yak herders and enjoy views of Jomolhari and other snow-capped peaks. Reach the yak herders’ pasture at Jangchulakha (3,780m) with outstanding Himalayan vistas.

Day 5: Trek to Jimilangtsho

Follow the ridge through juniper trees, with sensational views of Thimphu and Paro valleys. After an ascent and steep descent, arrive at Jimilangtsho Lake (3,880m), known for giant-sized trouts. Enjoy views of Jichu Drake, the protective deity of Paro.

Day 6: Trek to Simkotatsho

Wander through dwarf rhododendron trees, pass Janetsho Lake, and glimpse into yak herder’s camps. The trail winds with magnificent views, leading to Simkotatsho Lake (4,110m). Camp at a yak pasture.

Day 7: Trek to Sangaygang or Thimphu

Begin with a gradual climb to a small saddle with majestic views of Mount Gangkar Puensum. Descend to another lake, climb to Phume La pass (4,210m) with prayer flags, and enjoy a view of Thimphu city. Descend through juniper trees to Phajodhing (3,870m) and walk downhill to Thimphu through blue pine and juniper forests.
