Q5. Do I need to book a tour package?

The government of Bhutan closely regulates its tourism sector. All foreign tourists, except for nationals of India, Bangladesh, and Maldives, must arrange their tours through authorized tour operators. This means travelers cannot simply book flights to Bhutan and explore the country on their own. Instead, they must book guided package tours through accredited agents, which will include arrangements for visas, hotels, transportation, guides, drivers, and more. Visas are issued to the tour operator upon full payment of the trip package cost. However, the Bhutanese currency cannot be used in India. Ngultrum serves as the recognized local currency in Bhutan and is used for all national and international economic transactions.

Q7. What is the best time to visit Bhutan?

The weather in Bhutan experiences significant variations depending on the elevation. The spring season, from March to May, is often considered the best time to visit. Despite occasional rainfall, this period brings vibrant wildflowers and the delightful melodies of birds in the valleys. It offers a fantastic opportunity for serene hikes in Bhutan’s remote locations. Another excellent time to visit is during autumn, from October to December. Similar to spring, these months are less rainy, providing clear skies and fresh air, making it ideal for hiking along Bhutan’s tranquil trails. In higher elevations, autumn may bring occasional snowfalls, adding to the picturesque scenery. However, the winter months of December and January boast a photographer’s dream with thick blankets of snow, but the temperatures can be colder. On the other hand, the monsoon season, from June to August, is characterized by heavy rainfall, making it less suitable for travel in Bhutan and best avoided.
