Day 1: Arrival in Paro

Arrive in Paro, and from the left side of the plane, savor stunning mountain views, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Jomolhari, and Jichu Drakey. Our guide will warmly welcome you, facilitating your hotel check-in. After lunch, explore Bhutan’s rich history at the 17th-century National Museum. Visit the Paro Dzong, a monumental fortress now housing the monastic body, and conclude the day with a pleasant stroll downhill over an old cantilever bridge.

Day 2: Paro Sightseeing

Embark on a morning hike to the revered Taktsang, the Tiger’s Nest, perched 800m above the valley on a vertical granite cliff. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche meditated here in the 8th century, arriving on the back of a tigress. In the afternoon, participate in a special Buddhist prayer ceremony at the 1200-year-old Kyichu Lhakhang Temple for good luck on the journey.

Day 3: Trek Paro to Thangthangkha (Distance: 21km, Walking time: 8hrs, Sleeping altitude: 3630m)

Embark on a trek from Shana to Thangthangkha, encountering a rocky trail along the Paro Chu with small ups and downs. The path may become muddy if it rains. After 2 ½ hours, reach a junction leading to Tibet. Rest and relax at the campsite.

Day 4: Thangthangkha to Jangothang (Distance: 16km, Walking time: 6hrs, Sleeping altitude: 4090m)

Encounter small sparse settlements and herds of yaks, crossing the tree line at 4000m. Camp at Jangothang, offering majestic views of Jomolhari and ancient ruins.

Day 5: Jangothang Halt

Take a day for acclimatization and rest. Consider an optional hike to Tshophu Lake at 4300m, approximately 2 hours from Jangothang.

Day 6: Jangothang to Yaksa (Distance: 17km, Walking time: 7hrs, Pass to cross: Bongtey La, 4820m, Sleeping altitude: 3800m)

Hike to Tshophu Lake, then climb to the pass for stunning views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drakey. Descend to Yaksa for the night.

Overnight at Tented Camp

Day 7: Yaksa to Thombu (Distance: 14km, Walking time: 5hrs, Pass to cross: Thombu La, 4550m, Sleeping altitude: 4150m)

Climb out of Yaksa, witness the Yaksa village across the valley, and cross the tree line. The pass, 1 hour away, offers views of Thombu, our camp, and on clear days, houses in Tibet.

Overnight at Tented Camp

Day 8: Thombu to Gunitsawa – Paro (Distance: 27km, Walking time: 7h, Sleeping altitude: 2200 M)

Navigate a short, steep climb out of the Thombu basin, traversing along a trail cut into a rocky cliff. Descend steeply for 4 hours, covering 1 ½ km of vertical descent. Reach the army check post, then drive to Paro. In the evening, explore the town, attend a meeting, and enjoy a farewell dinner.
